Dr. Barenie graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. While at school, she was involved in SCAVMA, Pet Therapy Club, Equine Emergency Team, Exotic Animal Club, and Polo Club. She joined the Lansing Animal Hospital team in 2023, and is excited to be a part of this hard-working team.

She grew up in Whiting, Indiana, where her family always had a variety of cats, dogs, birds, fish, and pocket pets. Occasionally, her family would rehabilitate wild creatures and release them back in the “wild”. Her neighbors were always surprised when the family’s recovered baby robin grew up and would land on their shoulders!

She enjoys many aspects of practicing veterinary medicine, including performing surgery, researching challenging internal medicine cases, performing dentals, comforting pets, and educating people.

Dr. Barenie, her husband, and her daughter have 2 cats, tropical fish, and goldfish. In her spare time, she plays in the handbell choir at her church, plays trombone for the Highland Community Band, drives her motorcycle, and camps with her family.
